Hashimoto at Captain McVay's Court Martial Proceeding
Mochitsura Hashimoto, commander of Japanese Submarine, I-58, gives his testimony in Washington DC as part of the Navy Command's effort to court martial Charles McVay III, Captain of the Indianapolis. In their book, Indianapols, co-authors Vladic and Vincent write that Hashiimoto's testimony confirmed the fact Hashimoto and I-58 would have been able to sink the Indy whether or not the Indy was "zig zagging" -- a technique ships used to evade being torpedoed. In this situation, there was nothing Captain McVay could have done to avoid the torpedoes and being sunk.
