
The Crew of the Enola Gay
The Enola Gay, piloted by Paul Tibbets and crew carried the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. It was a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber. The B-29 was a heavy bomber with four engines. On August 6, 1945, the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb used in combat on Hiroshima, Japan. The bomb was code-named "Little Boy". The Enola Gay is on display at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.
